Central & Unser Library
Albuquerque / THE ROOM
Why this room makes the map
The West Side's library at Central and Unser is a civic building with real design credentials, winner of the 2016 Jeff Harnar Award for Contemporary Architecture. Its community room holds up to 100 people and hosts free movie matinees and gaming events.
About the room
The branch opened on April 18, 2015, bringing library service to West Side neighborhoods that had gone without, and it now carries the name Patrick J. Baca Library. RMKM Architecture shaped the building around the harsh western sun, using light-deflecting panels and keeping the shelves low under high ceilings.
Before you go
It sits on Central just west of Unser, next door to the Central and Unser Transit Station, so buses including the 66 stop at the door. Check abqlibrary.org for current hours and the program calendar.
