Civic Plaza
Albuquerque / THE ROOM
Why this room makes the map
Civic Plaza is the largest public space in downtown Albuquerque, rated for about 20,000 people, with a permanent performance stage at Third and Tijeras. The Convention Center programs it, and a grant-funded projection system turns the plaza into an outdoor movie house.
About the room
The plaza opened in 1974 and carries the name of Harry E. Kinney, the two-time mayor who pushed for the Convention Center next door and then for this square. A community-led makeover in 2015 brought tables and shade umbrellas, and a renovation finished in 2018 rebuilt the fountain so it stopped leaking onto the cars in the garage underneath.
Before you go
The Civic Plaza garage entrance is at Third Street and Marquette, which parks you directly under the plaza. For festivals, read the event's own page for entry and bag rules, and check the Convention Center's Civic Plaza calendar for what's on.
