Why this room makes the map
The El Rey has booked concerts since 1981 inside a movie house that opened on Central Avenue in 1941. Shows play to a hardwood dance floor, and the old marquee still announces them to Route 66 traffic.
About the room
Architect J.B. Burwinkle designed the theater in a Mission style, and it sits at 622 Central Ave SW on the west end of downtown. In its last movie years it was the Reel Art, an adult cinema, until it closed in 1972, and the building has also held a grocery, bars and shops. Better Call Saul used the exterior as a filming location.
