On Friday and Saturday, Gaia's Kava Root stays open until 4 a.m., two hours after the bars close, and nothing on the menu contains alcohol. It pours kava, kanna and mocktails to a crowd that shows up for karaoke, drag nights and DJs.
About the room
The family-owned bar opened in October 2024 at 2122 Central Ave SE, in the University area. Kava is a South Pacific root drink with a calming, slightly numbing effect, and on Sundays the bar holds a free traditional kava ceremony.
