International District Library
Albuquerque / THE ROOM
Why this room makes the map
This branch stands where Caravan East, once the city's biggest country western club, filled its dance floor for about 40 years. The library kept a piece of that past: the Jewell Community Room has a wood floor built for dance demonstrations and lessons, and it seats up to 150.
About the room
It opened on July 9, 2022, on Central east of Louisiana, after more than a decade of neighborhood advocacy for a library in Southeast Albuquerque. RMKM Architects designed it to run on daylight from skylights and clerestory windows, and it was the first branch in the system with virtual reality stations.
Before you go
Find it at 7601 Central Ave NE, with the Story Plaza out front for outdoor gatherings. Community room events change often, so look at the branch calendar on abqlibrary.org before you go.
