The ABQ Press Club
Albuquerque / THE ROOM

Why this room makes the map
The Albuquerque Press Club pours drinks in a three-story 1903 log house modeled on a Norwegian villa, a style almost unheard of in New Mexico. The architect, Charles Whittlesey, also designed the Alvarado Hotel.
About the room
The club has owned the Whittlesey House on Highland Park Circle SE, in the Huning Highlands, since the 1970s and counts about 1,030 members, mostly journalists plus first responders and service industry workers. Inside are a lava rock fireplace, a pool table downstairs and dart boards.
Before you go
This is a private club, so you need a membership or a member to sign you in, though the bartender can sometimes help. Call or check abqpressclub.com for hours and the occasional event open to non-members.
