Vernon’s Speakeasy
Albuquerque / THE ROOM

Why this room makes the map
Vernon's has no sign out front. You knock three times on a steel door in the Village Shops at Los Ranchos, a peephole slides open, and the password from your reservation gets you past a doorman in a pinstripe suit.
About the room
It opened in January 2007 as Vernon's Hidden Valley Steakhouse, and Michael Baird renovated it into a full Prohibition-era speakeasy after buying it in 2009. The dining room has black walls and red plank ceilings, with live jazz or piano Wednesday through Sunday.
Before you go
